Overview

A Parenting Plan is a legally recognised but non-binding agreement setting out a child’s care and living arrangements and other care related matters after separation.

Parenting Plans can be easily updated, and aren’t required to be registered or lodged with the Family Court.

Important

To be legally recognised, a Parenting Plan must be:
1 — in writing
2 — made by a child’s parents
3 — be signed and dated by the parents
4 — be about a child or parenting related matter

Although Parenting Plans aren’t binding or enforceable, it can still be worth getting family law advice before signing
